This is a speech by Bogyoke Aung San given at a cadet graduation ceremony. Very notable and visionary views by Aung San, amazing me as if he've already seen the future, absolutely appropriate to what is happening with current Burmese military now.
Some of the notable words by Bogyoke are as follow (caution: not a literal translation or en quote), " Please get rid of the attitude that only we "soldiers" love the country. In both this country and other countries, soldiers are not only ones who love the nation but also there many other "non-soldiers" people who love the country as much as you guys do". This reminds me of current military's slogan saying "Only the military is the father and mother of the nation". What a contradictory view in regard to the one held by the founder of Tat Ma Daw!
At the very beginning of the speech, Bogyoke said in a very clear and concise way so blunt enough that even naive people can understand it, "The military must be the slave of the nation(or people) but not the people as slave of the military. It is natural for most people to incline for abusing power against powerless people when they are in power. We must not be so. When we are powerless, we must not be afraid to tell the truth. When we are in power, we must not abuse our power over powerless people. Therefore, the military as an institution endowed with right to hold arms must be a fundamental role model to demonstrate such moral value of not abusing power in the country...". These words are very true today, Bogyoke yay!
I salute you! You are Father of our country. I admire you, my Bogyoke!
